Geography Fair

Earlier in the year Skyla's class picked names of countries out of a hat for a geography fair. The event was supposed to happen last night and we have been preparing for a long time. Her country was Vietnam. She turned in a short paper about the country and prepared a poster board. She has really enjoyed working on the project and learning about her country. She was really excited about dressing in costume and serving a sample of a drink similar to a Vietnamese soda. Unfortunately....it snowed last night! The decision was made that if you still wanted to go to the church to see the projects you could but it was not necessary to bring your food items or dress in costume. We decided we would go early and try to make the best of it. Skyla definitely wanted to wear her costume and give out her drink samples. So we loaded up and drove to the church to find about five other families there. Originally, there probably would have been over 100 people.

This didn't stop little Skyla though. She quickly set up her table and would not step away from it even for a moment, hoping that someone would come by to try her drink. I roamed the empty halls and looked at other projects. It was pretty heartbreaking to come back in to the big empty room with only Skyla standing next to her table still hoping the event would go on. The few teachers that were there did try to make a big deal out of her efforts. She did not want to leave even when it was clear that no one else was coming. We talked about the disappointment for all the kids and the teachers who did so much to prepare.

How disappointing! Her project looked great! And she looks like a real little vietnamese girl! We would have loved to have stopped by her booth and try her drink! We have been to Vietnam- it's a beautiful country!
