Kiai

Today the girls tested to move from the white belt to the yellow belt in karate. They were such a mix of excited and nervous. (I was too) They loved breaking the board in half with their side kick. Way to go my lovely girls!

Poetry

Skyla recently wrote these two poems and asked me to post them on the blog.

A Nice Day
by Skyla Ann Brannen
Oh the flowers blooming
See the buds rising
See the sunshine shinning and the bluebirds singing and the bees humming
See the leaves falling
See the sunshine leaving and the moon rising

Colors
by Skyla Ann Brannen
Skies are blue
The sun is gold
The moon is white and the bees are yellow
The earth is blue and green and you are sweet

Our Weekend

Les and I just celebrated our 10 year anniversary. I have told my girls to marry a romantic man, preferably one that can cook. I am sure glad I did. Les surprised me by planning a trip to Savannah and making arrangements with his sweet mom to watch our kids. Starting with four hours of uninterrupted conversation in the car...I knew we were going to have a good time. We even stayed in a fancy pants historic carriage house thanks to our generous friends that own it. Savannah is so pretty and we love the fact that you can walk everywhere. Since we met in Statesboro we have a history in both places. We may not have partied quite like the rock stars we used to be...but a good time was in deed had! Good food, including lunch with Lester's dad, bars with live music and some serious people watching, a bike tour to learn more about Savannah's history, river street, a musical, lots of walking and talking and remembering when... Thank you Lester for making this happen and Val for taking care of my babies.

Six

We celebrated August's six birthday at Val and Gene's lake house. The kids loved swimming, going on boat rides and playing in the rock garden. It was a great time! I would love to post pictures but I forgot my camera.
Thoughts on August at age six:
1- Her eyes sparkle and her smile is contagious
2- She is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks
3- She still calls adults, da-dults
4- She and Jude love to wrestle
5- She changes her opinion to match her sister constantly
6- She is almost reading
7- She loves rainbows and things that shimmer
8- She is very affectionate
9- She currently wants to be a mama, vet, nurse, singer, ballerina, and doctor when she grows up
10-She loves to play dolls with her sister
11- She loves to hear stories about when she was a baby
12- She could have a good time just about anywhere
